Parce que l’excellence d’un skipper ne passe pas uniquement par la maîtrise des monstres des mers mais aussi par la connaissance de supports plus simples, l’équilibre des moments à terre et la capacité à transmettre à d’autres passionnés.
A skipper’s skill is demonstrated not only in their ability to battle sea monsters, but also in their knowledge of simpler devices, the balance of time spent on land, and the ability to share their knowledge with other enthusiasts.
Le mois dernier, nous avons emporté dans nos bagages Sébastien Josse, grand skipper français, spécialiste de la course au large en solitaire, avec plusieurs Vendée Globes à son palmarès et pionnier des gigantesques trimarans à foils. Sébastien, ambassadeur de la marque depuis 2007, a accepté de participer à l’amélioration et la promotion des produits de cette saison.
That is why, last month, we took Sébastien Josse along with us on our travels. Sébastien, one of the greatest French skippers. He excels in offshore solo racing, has several Vendée Globe circuits to his credit and pioneered in sailing the enormous foiling trimaran. As an ambassador for the brand since 2007, Sébastien agreed to help improve and promote the season’s products.

Prenant l’Afrique du sud comme toile de fond, nous sommes partis à la rencontre d’autres passionnés, comme Sébastien, qui nous ont ouvert les portes de leurs univers professionnels et de leurs aventures personnelles. L’occasion pour nous de découvrir et de photographier de belles histoires.
With South Africa as our backdrop, we set out to meet other enthusiasts, like Sébastien, who opened the doors to share their professional world with us, as well as their personal adventures. We had the opportunity to discover and photograph beautiful stories.

Nous avons également croisé le chemin de Owl Brown, shaper de Saint Francis Bay et fondateur de la Saint Francis Surf Factory, où nous faisons fabriquer quelques superbes surfboards pour notre Ocean Store de Paris. L’occasion pour Sébastien de creuser un peu les secrets du shape et d’ajuster les courbes de son prochain jouet .
We also met up with Owl Brown, Saint Francis Bay shaper and the founder of Saint Francis Surf Factory, where we have a few beautiful boards made for our Ocean Store in Paris. This was the perfect opportunity for Sébastien to share some of the secrets behind shaping boards and adjust the curves of his next toy.

Nous avons également découvert la réserve animalière d’Amakhala au nord de Port Elizabeth, guidés par Brent Cook qui y a fondé il y a 15 ans le magnifique Hillsnek Safari Lodge avec son épouse Chantelle.
Brent étant également un surfeur passionné, nous avons pu poser mille questions sur son style de vie inspirant entre plage et animaux sauvages.
With Brent Cook we were able to discover the Amakhala animal reserve north of Port Elizabeth, where he founded Hillsnek Safari Lodge 15 years ago with his wife Chantelle.
Brent is also a passionate surfer, and we had the opportunity to ask him a thousand questions about his inspiring lifestyle on the beach and with wild animals.

Nous ne pouvions terminer ce périple sans parler bateau. Même si ces magnifiques catamarans de croisière sont plus lents et moins sportifs que les trimarans à foils qu’a l’habitude de piloter Sébastien, les constructions et l’aventure du chantier Nexus nous ont beaucoup impressionné. Incroyable aventure que celle des frères Paarman, Mark et son frère Jonathan, légende du surf sud- africain.
Of course, this journey would not be complete without any mention of boats. Even though these magnificent cruising catamarans are slower and less sporty than the foiling trimaran Sébastien is used to sailing, we were very impressed by the structures and adventure we discovered at the Nexus workshop. The Paarman brothers, Mark and Jonathan, a legend in the South African surfing world, have certainly had an incredible adventure.
